ECOBREED partners from IFVC (Serbia) have published a new paper on sustainable cover cropping systems in the journal Plants.
The article brings new insights into the effects of winter cover crops on the agronomic performance of soybean and their effects on different physiological groups of rhizosphere microorganisms in two sustainable production systems. After two years of trials, the soybean yields increased significantly between the pea and oats tested as cover crops. The results also showed that the abundance and activity of microorganisms in the soybean rhizosphere increased. This study brings important improvements for the sustainability of production in south-east European regions, where a decline in the diversity of crop rotations has been observed.
