Information database for genotypic and phenotypic characterisation data of the ECOBREED working collections

You can view the database here.

The database contains all genotypic and phenotypic data for the working collections used in ECOBREED and published in scientific and technical papers. The database is created in MS Excel with one file and four sheets for the four ECOBREED crops including following species: Triticum aestivum L. (winter wheat and spring wheat), Triticum turgidum subsp. durum (Desf.) Husn. (durum wheat), Solanum tuberosum L. (potato), Glycine max (L.) Merrill (soybean), Fagopyrum esculentum Moench (buckwheat) and Fagopyrum tataricum (L.) Gaertner (tartary buckwheat). A link to the European Search Catalogue for Plant Genetic Resources (EURISCO) database is included in the Excel file for EURISCO accessions.

The database contains several attributes about the accessions: botanical taxon name; cultivar name with active link to institution or society; accession number (with direct link to EURISCO); country of origin, status (information on where each cultivar is listed with added filters for breeding lines, cultivated variety, genetic strain, heterogeneous material); country; original breeder (link to institution or society); year of release; details (with direct link to Zenodo repository); source (with link to society or EURISCO).

  • VARIETY NAME:  Either a registered or other designation given to the material received, other than the accession number. Multiple names are separated by a semicolon without space (ACCENAME = Accession name).
  • SOURCE – ACCESSION NO. (EURISCO link): The accession (name of the variety, genotype, etc.)  in the EURISCO information system has a link and is listed in the cell. In the case, accession is not originally from the genebank and has no EURISCO link, then we added links from breeders (mainly in the case of commercial varieties).
  • COUNTRY OF ORIGIN (ORIGCTY): Country of origin is 3-letter ISO 3166-1 code of the country in which the sample was originally collected (e.g. landrace, crop wild relative, farmers’ variety), bred or selected (breeding lines, segregating populations, hybrids, modern cultivars, etc.).
  • ORIGINAL BREEDER / ORIGINAL BREEDER (link): Breeding institute name is name of the institute (or person) that bred the material. Multiple names are separated by a semicolon without space. The link of the breeding institute is not listed in the EURISCO system. We can find the breeding institute link in GENESYS.
  • YEAR OF RELEASE: The year of registration of the variety is not indicated in the EURISCO system, but the year of acquisition of the Genebank accession is indicated. Acquisition date [YYYYMMDD] is date on which the accession entered the collection. Missing data (MM or DD) is indicated with hyphens or ‘00’ [double zero].
  • STATUS: Biological status of accession has 3  levels of detail:  the general codes (in boldface) such as 100, 200, 300, 400, or by using the more specific codes such as 110, 120, etc. 100) Wild 110) Natural 120) Semi-natural/wild 130) Semi-natural/sown; 200) Weedy; 300) Traditional cultivar/landrace; 400) Breeding/research material 410) Breeder’s line 411) Synthetic population 412) Hybrid 413) Founder stock/base population 414) Inbred line (parent of hybrid cultivar) 415) Segregating population 416) Clonal selection 420) Genetic stock 421) Mutant (e.g. induced/insertion mutants, tilling populations) 422) Cytogenetic stocks (e.g. chromosome addition/substitution, aneuploids, amphiploids) 423) Other genetic stocks (e.g. mapping populations); 500) Advanced or improved cultivar (by conventional breeding methods); 600) GMO (by genetic engineering); 999) Other (Elaborate in REMARKS field)
  • SOURCE (EURISCO link): We have provided a EURISCO link for accessions listed in the Genebank, which corresponds to the updates in the EURISCO system.
  • DETAILS (Zenodo link): the links are provided and will be continuously updated after the end of the project for each accession (variety) evaluated in the ECOBREED project, together with any related publication/citation.
